Architectural FAQs
Safety & Security
Why should I consider fitting safety or security film in my home or office?
Sharp shards of glass can seriously injure people. Unpredictable events, accidents or break-ins can cause glass to shatter. Safety films reduce the risk of injury by holding shards together.
How do Lamin8 Safety & Security Films work?
They hold glass pieces together when broken, reducing the risk of shards flying out. They are thicker than regular window films.
Can window film be applied to existing glass?
Yes, most films are retrofitted to existing glass.
Can safety & security film be applied to glass shower doors, balustrades or cabinets?
Yes, but each scenario should be assessed individually.
Are the Safety & Security Films bullet-proof?
No, they are a deterrent and make glass shatter-resistant but do not stop bullets.
Are the Safety & Security Films intruder-proof?
They slow down intruders in “smash and grab” attacks, giving you time to react, but persistent intruders may still enter.
What is the thickest film you offer?
300 micron Safety & Security film for maximum protection.
What is visible light transmittance (VLT)?
VLT is the percentage of visible light passing through a window or glazing unit.
Is it expensive?
Costs depend on the film and thickness. It’s often cheaper than other security measures like burglar bars.

Can Lamin8 Decorative Films be used on shower doors?
Yes, preferably fitted on the outside of smooth glass enclosures.
Will the decorative range block UV rays and prevent fading?
Most decorative films block UV rays, but fading can also result from heat, ageing, and humidity.
Do these films block heat?
Yes, reflective films reduce absorbed solar heat, lowering room temperatures while allowing light in.
Does your Decorative range include frosted or patterned films?
Yes, including frosted, etched, and patterned options.
Does this film also hold glass shards together if a window breaks?
Yes, though not as strong as Safety & Security film.

Yes, natural sunlight is allowed while glare is minimised.
Will it prevent furniture and carpet fading?
Yes, it can significantly extend lifespan by blocking up to 99% of UV rays.
